Position Summary:

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
Design and perform experiments for developing robust and scalable primary recovery unit operations including cell lysis and inclusion body (IB) recovery. Candidate is expected to be the expert of primary recovery in Process Biochemistry, evaluating and applying new technologies in process development. Responsibilities may also include development and trouble shooting of chromatography and UF/DF unit operations for purification of novel molecules such as protein-drug conjugates, bi-specifics and proteins expressed in E.coli systems that require re-folding. Candidate is expected to design and execute studies to meet early stage process development objectives and timeline, as well as preparation of regulatory documents (INDs, CTAs, IMPDs).
Special Skills/Abilities:
• Theoretical knowledge and practical experience in primary recovery process development and scale up
• Expertise in homogenization/cell disruption, depth filtration, continuous centrifugation, tangential flow filtration, IB recovery, and precipitation/flocculation
• Knowledge and hands on experience with primary recovery equipment at lab scale and large scale
• Familiarity with process modeling techniques and statistical analysis
• Experience in developing protein refold or purification process for non-Mab molecules desired
• GMP experience. Familiarity with tech transfer to pilot and commercial manufacturing desired
• Experience writing regulatory documents
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Team work and collaborative
• Supervisory experience is a plus


REQUIREMENTS:
Job Complexity: Job is complex, requiring a thorough understanding of biochemical properties
of biopharmaceuticals, process development and scale up in support of product commercialization. Scientific and technical expertise in primary recovery is essential. Knowledge and experience in chromatography and filtration development is required.

Supervision: Reports directly to a Principal Scientist but is expected to work independently on a day-to-day basis.
May supervise B.S./M..S. scientists and engineers directly or in matrix
(Supervision required, level of independence)
Education: M.S., Ph.D. or equivalent in chemical engineering

Experience: Ph.D. with 1-3 years, M.S. with 5+ years or B.S. with 8+ years of relevant experience in
biotechnology and development of biopharmaceutical products
