DESCRIPTION

Novartis is expanding its biologics capabilities. As part of this commitment, the Novartis Institutes of Biomedical Research (NIBR) created the global Biologics Center to enhance the growth of its biopharmaceutical pipeline. The local subdivision of the New Technology group within the NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) in Cambridge supports these activities by a dedicated protein discovery and engineering unit.



The use of alternative protein scaffolds is being explored to augment antibody efforts in immunotherapeutics, immunotoxins and immunodiagnostics. We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic scientists interested in contributing to this exciting research. The successful candidates will be responsible for the design, expression, purification and characterization of artificial scaffold proteins to be used as antibody substitutes. He/She will also be expected to continually augment the scientific and technical capabilities of the unit.BS/MS degree in life sciences with at least 3 years laboratory experience, preferably in biotech/pharma industry. Experience in protein expression in eukaryotic systems, protein purification using automated systems (e.g. AKTA), protein detection/characterization and some molecular biology are required. Applicants with experience in and a proven track record with ribosome display, phage display, yeast surface display, directed evolution, protein engineering will be favorably considered. Experience in high-throughput methods and automation is desirable. The candidates should have a track record of problem solving, good organization and communication skills and the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
