Position Summary:

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):

MedImmune has a new opportunity for an Associate Scientist II/Scientist I in In-process Testing Group within the Analytical Biochemistry Department. The successful candidate will utilize chromatographic and spectroscopic methods to support biopharmaceutical products testing, such as humanized monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, and vaccines and small molecules. He/she will be involved in HPLC and GC method development to support in-process testing of biopharmaceutical products. The candidate will work on complex and technically demanding projects where analysis of data requires an evaluation of multiple variables. He/she must possess a successful track record showing technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and independent lines of thought. The candidate will also be expected to be familiar with SOP, GLP and GMP requirements during biopharmaceutical product development. The candidate will make detailed experimental observations, review and analyze data, and interpret experimental results. He/she will need to be able to solve technical problems using an experimental approach with chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. The candidate will need to present and discuss experimental results at group/project team meetings and scientific conferences. Finally, he/she must be able to work in a team structure and interface with different research and development departments.


REQUIREMENTS:
Requirements/Qualifications:

The candidate must have expertise in the area of protein chemical analysis and a strong knowledge of protein biochemistry. A good understanding of analytical techniques, such as chromatography and spectroscopy in protein analysis, and method qualification is required. Experience with HPLC-based methods such as size exclusion, affinity, reversed phase, ion exchange, and hydrophobic interaction chromatographic methods is desirable. Excellent teamwork and communication skills including good documentation and writing skills are critical. Good multi-tasking, time management and organizational skills are essential. Supervisory and time/project management experience is desirable. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Education: With MS degree, 8-10 years experience; with Ph.D. degree, 0-3 years experience. Experience in a bioanalytical lab in industry is preferable.


Experience: 0-8 years of laboratory experience (preferably in an industry environment)

Special Skills/Abilities: Have a good working knowledge of analytical assays using a variety of chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. Previous cGMP and/or GLP experience is a plus. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are desirable.
