DESCRIPTION

Pacific Biosciences is seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate or Scientist, to work within a dynamic interdisciplinary team to develop enzymatic assays and characterize enzymes for our single molecule DNA sequencing system. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and managing enzyme screening assays to identify promising enzymes for our next generation DNA sequencing technology. The position primarily involves hands-on laboratory work. The selected candidate will develop new assays, transfer small scale assays to high throughput and perform high throughput screening assays. The individual will be working in a fast-paced environment interacting with scientists from a wide variety of backgrounds.

The title will be based on the selected individual’s experiences and determined at the offer stage.


REQUIREMENTS:

-Candidates at the Senior Research Associate level should have a B.S. and/or M.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related scientific field, along with 8-10 plus years of relevant industry experience.

-Candidates at the Scientist level should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related scientific field, along with 1-5 years of relevant industry experience.

-Prior experience working in the biotechnology, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industry.

-Knowledgeable in identifying promising enzymes, developing enzyme screening assays, and characterizing enzymes.

-Experienced in developing new assays, transferring small scale assays to high throughput, and performing high throughput screening assays.

-Knowledgeable with 96- and/or 384-well plate based assays, high throughput enzymatic assays, fluorescence-based assays.

-Experienced in Biomek robotics.

-Knowledgeable in capillary electrophoresis.

-Experienced in molecular cloning, plasmid transformation, and high throughput protein expression/purification.

-Knowledgeable in large scale data analysis, GeneMapper software, and programming macros in Excel.

-Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.

-Effective written and verbal communication skills.

-Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

-Self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision.

-Prior experience with DNA sequencing technology preferred.
