Intrexon Corporation is developing DNA control systems to enhance the safety and efficacy of existing and novel biological therapeutics. The company’s technology employs special genetic components and activator compounds to tightly control the delivery, targeting, activation, regulation and location of biologics. Job Description
The Bioprocess Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of process development, implementation and optimization for the division’s protein manufacturing activities.
•Provides expertise in cell culture, engineering, bioprocess design and scale-up.
•Oversees upstream and downstream bioprocess development activities for cGMP manufacturing.
•Closely manages external resources and works with partners to ensure high quality performance and deliverables.
•Evaluates facility and equipment design and monitors manufacturing operations.
•Participates in evaluating, establishing and implementing new platform technologies as well as streamlining current. unit operations for enhanced process efficiency and product quality.
•Keeps abreast of new developments/technologies in areas of responsibility. Attends external technical forums to remain current with technology and regulatory guidelines.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field, Ph.D. preferred.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in process development of upstream or downstream processes in the bio/pharma industry.

Other Minimum Qualifications:
•Extensive experience with suspension cell culture (e.g. CHO, NS0, etc.), stirred tank bioreactor operation, bioreactor parameter optimization, cell culture medium optimization and development of feed strategies and process scale up.
•Experience with a wide range of cell culture process scales and platforms.
•Experience working with purification and analytical teams to optimize cell culture processes to achieve desired product characteristics and quality.
•Experience working with complex glycoproteins is desirable.
•Experience working in a GMP environment and managing multiple contract manufacturers is preferred.
•Possesses a combination of strong technical aptitude, project engineering skills and dedication to excellence.
•Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
•Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment with scientists of different backgrounds and experience levels.
•Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize activities as needed to accomplish unanticipated requests or initiate new projects requiring immediate attention.
•Demonstrates the highest ethical standards and trustworthiness.
