BioProcess Engineer – Millipore Biomanufacturing Sciences Network (BSN)
Millipore Corporation is looking for an Engineer/Scientist to join the BioProcess Engineering Group (BPE) - a team of engineers and scientists within the Biomanufacturing Sciences Network (BSN) dedicated to supporting Millipore's technologies in the biopharmaceutical industry in North America.
The BioProcess Engineering group is responsible for proactively pursuing and performing process development purification of therapeutic proteins. The group is involved in the selection, sizing, optimization and design of purification unit operations. The focus will be on biotechnology best practices, process development and scale-up from clinical manufacturing through commercial manufacturing.
The BioProcess Engineering group works with the following Millipore technologies: sterile filtration, tangential flow filtration, primary and secondary clarification, viral reduction filtration, as well as chromatography. The candidate will work closely with development and technical support teams within biotech companies and also with Millipore's Marketing and R&D departments. The candidate will be recognized by our customers and within Millipore organization as a subject matter expert and a key technical resource, competent in all aspects of biotechnology processes.
Job Summary:
- Provide consultative expertise and technical support for best practices, process development and scale-up of biopharmaceutical applications.
- Able to critically examine/analyze data and model process behavior to characterize process performance.
- Design experiments to understand process sensitivity and troubleshoot operation issues.
- Able to carry out reviews/audits to examine process sequence, operation protocol, design parameters and recommend appropriate changes.
- Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed experiments, materials or equipment.
- Able to independently design and execute experimental protocols.
- Able to decipher and understand Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Understand scaling issues, constraints and sizing techniques relating to the application.
- Serve as a technical contact for biopharmaceutical companies on critical projects.
- Ability to troubleshoot field application related issues: equipment, operation or design-related
- Coordinate project related activities and communicate project status and updates to all relevant parties on critical projects.
- Conduct in-house/on-site seminars for biopharmaceutical companies on different subjects
Job Requirements:
- Strong background and practical experience in membrane based separation and purification of proteins & biomolecules.
- Clear understanding of scaling requirements and constraints in biopharmaceutical applications.
- Ability to clearly define project goals & provide practical and effective solutions to separation challenges.
- Process modeling experience a plus.
- Experience in preparing project proposals, plans, schedules as well as detailed reports and budgets.
- Set priorities and assume ownership of critical projects development activities until completion.
- Excellent data analysis and organizational skills.
- Well-developed communication skills and ability to respond to customer needs in a timely fashion.
- BS/MS/PhD in ChE with 5-6 yr experience in related field.
