DESCRIPTION
The ideal candidate will have a B.S. or M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science or Physical Sciences, preferably related to computational biology with several years of relevant experience in statistics and statistical processes to verify complex algorithms and tools that are used to identify signals from single-molecule sequencing. The selected individual will be working in a fast-paced start-up, interacting with scientists and engineers from a variety of backgrounds.
The candidate will be responsible to ensure the quality of the secondary analysis algorithms for SMRT sequencing data using skills in algorithms development, data analysis, biological insight, and software engineering. The candidate will define metrics and develop test protocols and tools to verify the performances of the algorithms. The selected individual will work closely with the SW engineers to define specifications and develop test plans. The candidate will understand and resolve performance issues, document results and report test data to the different teams. The ideal candidate must be a strong team player, able to take initiative, and detail oriented.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Advanced degree, or equivalent experience, in math, physics, engineering or related fields.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in statistical approaches, preferably including exploratory data analysis and Bayesian/maximum-likelihood estimators, clustering algorithms, and Monte-Carlo style simulation
- Software development skills and experience with Java, C#, C++, C is required
- Experience with Matlab or Matlab like tools, Python and Perl is also desired.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Any knowledge of the following disciplines is helpful: molecular biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, statistical mechanics, genetic algorithms
- Preference shown to candidates who can demonstrate good understanding of software best practices, object-oriented design, and/or software architecture
- Product development and / or industry experience in a multi-disciplinary Biotech environment is a plus.
