Job Description
Position Title: Chief Operating Officer
Reports To: Chief Executive Officer
Status: Exempt
MISSION
Medicines360 principal mission is to develop innovative and affordable therapies for women and children to reduce domestic and global health inequities through a sustainable social business.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the overall day to day activities of the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, s/he provides strong leadership and direction for the organization and specifically for the Phase III Women’s Health project including clinical development and commercialization and all operational areas of the business (Marketing, IT, HR, Legal, Facilities and Finance). The COO is responsible for establishing and maintaining the business environment to ensure safety and the accurate and reliable data necessary for clinical and business operations, non-profit reporting, regulatory filings and audits. The COO has primary responsibility for ensuring that the organization is operating in line with its stated values and is developing and maintaining an internal atmosphere that supports individual accountability, transparency, open communication, and respect for each person associated with Medicines360 including partners and investigators.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned
Accountable for the overall day-to-day operating and financial success of the business.
Select and develop a strong, capable team of professionals, motivated to achieve Medicine360’s stated goals.
Provide strong leadership to Medicines360, specifically the IUD project team and all support functions.
Ensure the effective functioning of the Clinical Development Team, resulting in timely and complete regulatory filings.
Manage the Marketing Partner and oversee the Marketing operation, ensuring the successful broadcasting of our message.
Identify and implement systems and processes needed in IT, Finance, Legal, Facilities and HR to ensure the smooth operation of company resources and proper management of Donor Funds.
Establish strategies and plans for growth, achievement of performance objectives and performance improvement.
Ensure compliance with all relevant domestic and internnational regulations. Implement orderly policies, processes, and procedures.
Work with CEO to establish overall growth and new development strategies and translate those strategies into operational plans.
Ensure that the CEO has sufficient information to present the organization and its mission, programs, products and services in a consistently strong and with a consistently positive image to relevant stakeholders.
Ensure a stable, capable, and productive employee population in accordance with current laws and regulations.
Maintain stable, productive workforce that is operating in an open and respectful interpersonal environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Close alignment with the mission of Medicines360
Advanced degree in Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences or MBA.
Minimum 10 years within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology field or minimum 10 years managing a complex organization within a strong regulatory environment.
Understanding of the full drug or medical device development process (IND/CTD/NDA) is highly desirable.
Experience working with Boards of Directors, committees, and public decision making bodies.
Experience working in a matrix environment with experience managing external collaborations and multiple partnerships in academic, small and large biotech or pharmaceutical companies.
Demonstrated ability to manage consultants and staff simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to build strong multidisciplinary teams and to gain the respect, confidence and trust of staff.
Demonstrated ability to manage financial resources effectively.
Demonstrated ability to motivate others, prioritize multiple tasks, and maintain positive interpersonal working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to negotiate difficult issues and to resolve complex conflicts and to empower others to do the same.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
