NPS Pharmaceuticals is pleased to announce an opportunity for a Research Associate – Level 2 to join the Medicinal Chemistry department on a 1 year-contract assignment. NPS is a public pharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and intends to commercialize small molecules and recombinant proteins as drugs, primarily for the treatment of metabolic, bone and mineral, and central nervous system disorders. The company has drug candidates in various stages of clinical development backed by a strong discovery research effort.
Research Associate – Level 2 Medicinal Chemistry Department – MaRS/Toronto One Year Contract
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The selected individual is required to have at least two years of experience in organic and medicinal chemistry with emphasis on modern synthetic methodology as well as analytical techniques (1H, 13C NMR, GC/MS, HPLC), and to use their technical skills to aid in the design and synthesis of novel therapeutic agents.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES The selected individual is required to assist in the design and synthesis of compounds active at a number of therapeutic targets and will be expected to contribute to team and company project objectives. These individuals will work within a team environment composed of chemists, pharmacologists, and molecular biologists and will be expected to interact effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS •The ideal candidate will possess either a B.Sc. degree with 2 – 8 years experience as well as a minimum of 2-years organic medicinal chemistry knowledge or a M.Sc. degree with a minimum of 0-2 years experience along with a minimum of 2-years organic medicinal chemistry experience. •Demonstrating an aptitude for medicinal chemistry-based small molecule drug discovery, able to work in an intense work ethic, and the ability to successfully work within a team-based environment are essential. •Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
