In clinical molecular diagnostics, Roche has made PCR the leading DNA based technology and has provided the basis for unprecedented advances in the diagnosis and monitoring of life-threatening diseases such as AIDS and hepatitis. PCR's extreme sensitivity makes it possible to diagnose infectious agents earlier and to monitor disease progression and response to therapy. Additionally, blood banks rely on Roche PCR tests to help ensure the safety of donated blood and blood products . Roche Molecular Diagnostics continues to build on this commitment by working on new applications in the use of PCR in the areas of infectious diseases, hereditary disorders, genetic markers and drug susceptibility. The ability to identify predisposition for diseases, with earlier disease screening and tailored patient therapy, will result in earlier treatment and improved patient care.
