Robot Camera Controller Moves Like Human Eye, Georgia Institute of Technology Study

7/13/2012 7:36:40 AM

To improve camera systems in robots, engineers have found a way to recreate the muscle control of the human eye. This new muscle-like action could help make robotic tools safer and more effective for MRI-guided surgery and robotic rehabilitation. The new control system’s piezoelectric cellular actuator is key to the design and uses a novel biologically inspired technology. It will allow a robot eye to move more like a real eye, which will be useful for research studies on human eye movement as well as making video feeds from robots more intuitive.
