Melanin May Power Biologically Friendly Electronic Devices, University of Queensland Study

Melanin—the pigment that colors squid ink—may someday power a new generation of biologically friendly electronic devices. The researchers say the potential applications include medical sensors and tissue stimulation treatments. Led by Professor Paul Meredith and Associate Professor Ben Powell at the University of Queensland, an international team of scientists has published a study that offers new insight into the electrical properties of the pigment and its biologically compatible “bioelectronic” features.
