BSUIR Designs Device to Monitor Efficacy of PDT Treatment

A group of scientists of the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics has developed a device to measure efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) used to treat cancer patients, BelTA learnt from Dean of the Computer-Aided Design Department of the university Sergei Dik. Laser analyzer Speckle-scan is designed to monitor blood circulation in small vessels. According to Sergei Dik, it is not the first device of this kind, but it is better than similar products for a number of reasons. Speckle-scan monitors the efficiency of photodynamic therapy online, while the existing technologies require taking tissue samples and examining them under a microscope.
